By Lisa Armstrong Healing must include the mind, not just the body. Settling your busy mind sometimes seems like an unmanageable task, but some simple tools can help ease the chatter: Expectations - Try positive self-talk. Also review expectations of yourself or others. Are they too high? Can you take things one step at a time? Express yourself - try listening to music and singing, drawing. dancing, or journal your thoughts. Perhaps you feel better when you talk to friends or family members.Exhale (and inhale!) - Deep, regular breathing can be done almost anywhere you are – in traffic, at work, or at home, and is crucial to getting oxygenated blood and new energy to all parts of the body. Excitement - do something fun and exciting - take a salsa dance lesson,
climb a local mountaintop, or learn how to kayak. Does all of this sound Exhausting? Fatigue can be a good thing, signaling a need to both sleep and rejuvenate away from others. Another tool involves taking a power nap as an effortless way to calm your emotions. Experience - When you’re at home, try inhalation therapy or aromatherapy, as a way to combine certain scents that evoke particular memories. The scent of a particular essential oil, a flower, or an herb can prompt a happy memory and promote a sense of well-being. You can also make this scent available by applying a scented lotion to your hands or body, by lighting a candle that is scented with your favorite fragrance, or by using certain spices when you're cooking. Experiment - look around, read and talk to others about the various ways to start healing your mind, body and your spirit - Make it your own way, and it will become a part of your everyday, and healthier life! |
